Description

These Toffee Dessert Bars are an irresistible treat, combining a buttery shortbread crust, melted chocolate, and gooey toffee goodness. Perfect for parties, potlucks, or a special dessert, these bars are easy to make and guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Crust:

  • 1 cup salted butter, cold
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup toffee bits

Filling:

  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups toffee bits, divided
  • 1 (14 ounce can) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 pinch sea salt, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
  2. Make the Crust: Cut 1 cup salted butter into small cubes and add them to a large mixing bowl. Add 2 cups all-purpose flour and ¼ cup granulated sugar. Use a pastry blender or two knives to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it forms a crumbly dough. Stir in ½ cup toffee bits.
  3. Press Crust into Pan: Press the mixture firmly into the prepared pan.
  4. Bake the Crust: Bake the crust for 22-25 minutes, or until it turns light golden brown.
  5. Add Chocolate and Toffee: Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle 2 cups chocolate chips evenly over the hot crust. Sprinkle 1 cup of the toffee bits on top, then drizzle the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the entire surface. Finish with the remaining ½ cup of toffee bits.
  6. Bake the Filling: Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 15-17 minutes, or until the top is lightly browned, and the edges are bubbly.
  7. Cool and Serve: If desired, sprinkle a pinch of sea salt over the top while the bars are still warm. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • For extra richness, use semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips.
  • You can use different types of toffee bits, such as Heath bar bits.
  • Allow the bars to cool completely before cutting to prevent them from crumbling.
  • Store leftover bars in an airtight container at room temperature.
