Main Ingredients
- 6 Tablespoons salted butter
- 1 (12-ounce) bag jumbo marshmallows
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 2 cups Golden Grahams cereal
- 2 1/2 cups mini marshmallows, divided (about 1/2 of a 10-ounce bag)
- 4 Hershey bars, broken into pieces
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan: Line a 9×9 inch baking dish with parchment paper or butter it lightly for easier removal of the treats once set. Set aside.
- Melt Butter: In a large saucepan, melt 6 tablespoons of salted butter over medium heat until fully melted and beginning to bubble lightly.
- Melt Marshmallows: Add the entire 12-ounce bag of jumbo marshmallows to the melted butter. Stir continuously over medium heat until the marshmallows are fully melted and the mixture is smooth without any lumps.
- Add Vanilla: Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to enhance the flavor.
- Mix Cereals and Mini Marshmallows: Add 4 cups of Rice Krispies, 2 cups of Golden Grahams, and 1 1/2 cups of mini marshmallows to the melted marshmallow mixture. Stir thoroughly until all cereals are evenly coated.
- Layer First Half: Transfer half of the cereal mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly. Then sprinkle half of the broken Hershey’s chocolate pieces and half of the remaining 1 cup of mini marshmallows evenly on top.
- Layer Second Half: Add the remaining half of the cereal mixture on top of the first layer and gently press down to compact the mixture slightly without over-compressing, which can make the treats dense and hard.
- Top and Set: Finish by topping with the remaining Hershey’s chocolate pieces and mini marshmallows. Allow the treats to cool and set completely at room temperature before cutting.
- Serve: Once set, cut into small squares and serve as a sweet, crunchy snack or dessert.
Notes
- Do not over-press the mixture in the pan to keep the treats light and chewy rather than dense.
- Using jumbo marshmallows helps achieve a gooey texture; mini marshmallows add extra bursts of sweetness.
- For easier cleanup, use a parchment paper sling to lift the treats out of the pan once set.
- Store treats in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain freshness for up to 3 days.
