Description

Create festive and fun Jack O’ Lantern bowls using colorful white chocolate and balloons. Perfect for serving vanilla ice cream with a Halloween twist, these edible bowls are coated with orange-tinted white chocolate and decorated with jack-o-lantern faces made from melted chocolate chips. A delightful treat to impress guests and add a seasonal touch to your dessert table.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Bowls:

  • 3 cups white chocolate chips
  • Orange food coloring (4 to 5 drops)
  • 4 small balloons
  • Melted chocolate chips (for decorating, transferred to a small ziplock bag)

For Serving:

  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Orange and black sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Prepare Balloons: Inflate 4 small balloons to your desired bowl size and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set the balloons aside on the prepared baking sheet.
  2. Melt Chocolate: Place the white chocolate chips in a large microwave-safe bowl and add 4 to 5 drops of orange food coloring. Microwave the mixture in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth.
  3. Coat Balloons: Working one at a time, dip the bottom half of each balloon into the melted orange chocolate, carefully rolling it around to ensure an even coating on all sides. Place the coated balloons back onto the parchment-lined baking sheet and allow the chocolate to set for at least 1 hour. Repeat this dipping process for all 4 balloons to make 4 bowls.
  4. Decorate Bowls: Once the chocolate bowls have fully set and hardened, use the melted chocolate chips in the ziplock bag to pipe classic jack-o-lantern faces onto each bowl. Allow the decoration to set for an additional 5 minutes.
  5. Remove Balloons and Serve: Gently pop each balloon and carefully peel it away from the hardened chocolate bowls. Scoop vanilla ice cream into each bowl and sprinkle with orange and black sprinkles before serving immediately.

Notes

  • Handle the chocolate bowls gently as they are delicate and can crack easily.
  • Ensure the chocolate is completely set before piping faces to avoid smudging.
  • Use small balloons to keep the bowl sizes manageable for serving individual portions.
  • Try different food coloring shades for alternative festive looks.
  • If the balloons deflate over time, work quickly after coating to maintain shape.
  • For best results, store the bowls in a cool, dry place until ready to serve.
