Salisbury Steak:
- 1 pound ground beef

Gravy:
- 6 ounces mushrooms, sliced

Instructions
- Prepare the vegetables: Place the sliced mushrooms and sliced onion in the bottom of the crock pot to create a flavorful base for the gravy.
- Mix the meat: In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard powder, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly with your hands until all ingredients are well incorporated. Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties.
- Brown the patties: Heat butter in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 3 minutes on each side, just until they are browned but not fully cooked through. This step helps to seal in juices and adds flavor.
- Layer in crock pot: Place the browned patties on top of the mushrooms and onions inside the crock pot.
- Prepare and add broth mixture: In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour this mixture evenly over the patties in the crock pot.
- Slow cook: Cover and cook on high for 3 hours or on low for 5 hours to let the patties become tender and absorb the gravy flavors.
- Thicken the gravy: Carefully remove the patties and set aside. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Stir the slurry into the broth in the crock pot and cook on high for a few minutes until the gravy thickens.
