Description

Cloud eggs are a fun and delicious way to enjoy eggs! The fluffy egg whites create a cloud-like base for the runny yolk, and the customizable toppings make them perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a light lunch.

Ingredients

Scale

Basic:

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Flavor Variations (Choose one):

  • Ham & Swiss: 1/4 cup diced deli ham, 1/2 cup grated Swiss cheese
  • Garlic & Parmesan: 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Bacon & Cheddar: 1/4 cup crumbled cooked bacon, 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • Gruyere & Chives: 1/2 cup grated Gruyere cheese, 2 tablespoons chopped chives

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep: Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Separate Eggs: Separate the egg whites and yolks, placing the whites in a large bowl and the yolks in individual small bowls (or one bowl if you’re careful).
  3. Whip Egg Whites: Using a hand mixer, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  4. Fold in Seasonings and Toppings: Gently fold in salt, pepper, and your chosen flavor variation ingredients (if using).
  5. Create Clouds: Spoon the egg white mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, forming 4 mounds with wells in the center for the yolks.
  6. Bake: Bake for 3 minutes, then carefully place a yolk in each well. Bake for another 2-3 minutes, or until the yolks are set to your liking.

Notes

  • Baking Time: Adjust baking time based on your preferred yolk consistency. For runny yolks, bake for a shorter time. For more well-done yolks, bake longer.
  • Flavor Combinations: Get creative with different flavor combinations! Try adding chopped vegetables, herbs, or spices to the egg whites.
  • Serving Suggestions: Serve cloud eggs on toast, with a side of roasted vegetables, or as part of a breakfast or brunch platter.
  • Storage: Cloud eggs are best enjoyed immediately after cooking.
