Crumb Topping
- 16 tablespoons salted butter, softened
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup cane sugar
- 3/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Fruit
- 6 whole pears
Optional Topping
- 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the crumb topping. In a large mixing bowl, use a pastry blender or fork to combine the softened butter, all-purpose flour, cane sugar, light brown sugar, and ground cinnamon until the mixture forms coarse crumbs.
- Prepare the pears. Cut each pear in half vertically and use a melon baller to carefully scoop out the centers of each half, removing all seeds while keeping the pear halves intact. Arrange all halves on a baking sheet.
- Stuff the pears. Fill the hollowed centers of each pear half generously with the crumb topping mixture, then sprinkle any remaining crumb mixture over the tops to fully cover the pears.
- Add optional pecans. Sprinkle the chopped pecans evenly over the crumb topping if desired to add extra texture and flavor.
- Bake the pears. Place the baking sheet in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) and bake for about 45 minutes, or until the crumb topping is golden brown and the pears are tender when poked with a fork.
- Serve warm. Remove from the oven and serve the stuffed pears warm, optionally topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for a luscious dessert experience.
Notes
- Choose ripe but firm pears for best results to ensure they hold their shape during baking.
- You can substitute pecans with walnuts or omit nuts altogether if preferred.
- The crumb topping can be prepared ahead and refrigerated to save time before baking.
- For a more intense cinnamon flavor, sprinkle an extra pinch over the pears before baking.
- Allow pears to cool slightly before serving to avoid burning and to enhance flavors.
