Ingredients
Scale
Chocolate Layers
- 12 ounces dark chocolate, high quality
- 12 ounces white chocolate, high quality
Toppings
- ⅓ cup crushed peppermint candy (or candy canes)
- ⅓ cup Christmas M&M’s, red and green
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan: Line a large half sheet baking pan with parchment paper to ensure easy removal of the bark after it sets.
- Melt Dark Chocolate: Melt the dark chocolate using a double boiler on the stove or the microwave. On the stove, bring water to a low simmer and place a heatproof bowl on top without letting it touch the water, stirring constantly until smooth. Alternatively, microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until completely melted.
- Spread Dark Chocolate: Pour the melted dark chocolate onto the parchment-lined pan and use a rubber spatula to spread it evenly to about ⅓-inch thickness. Refrigerate for 10 minutes to slightly harden the chocolate.
- Melt White Chocolate and Layer: In a clean bowl, melt the white chocolate using the same method. Pour the melted white chocolate over the dark chocolate layer and gently spread it out to cover fully.
- Add Toppings: While the white chocolate is still melted, sprinkle the crushed peppermint candies and Christmas M&M’s evenly on top.
- Chill to Set: Place the pan in the refrigerator for 2 hours or in the freezer for 45 minutes until the bark is completely hardened.
- Break and Serve: Remove from the fridge or freezer and break the bark into pieces. Enjoy immediately or store as desired.
Notes
- Storage: Once fully set, store the peppermint bark in an airtight container or sealed plastic bag at room temperature for 3-4 weeks. Keep it in a cool area to avoid melting, or store in the refrigerator for longer freshness.
- Freezing: For longer storage, freeze the bark in a freezer-safe airtight container or bag for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving.
