Description

This festive Chocolate Peppermint Christmas Bark is a delightful holiday treat featuring layers of smooth dark and white chocolate topped with crushed peppermint candy and colorful Christmas M&M’s. Easy to make and perfect for gifting or sharing at holiday gatherings, this sweet bark combines rich chocolate flavors with a refreshing peppermint crunch.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Layers

  • 12 ounces dark chocolate, high quality
  • 12 ounces white chocolate, high quality

Toppings

  • ⅓ cup crushed peppermint candy (or candy canes)
  • ⅓ cup Christmas M&M’s, red and green

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Line a large half sheet baking pan with parchment paper to ensure easy removal of the bark after it sets.
  2. Melt Dark Chocolate: Melt the dark chocolate using a double boiler on the stove or the microwave. On the stove, bring water to a low simmer and place a heatproof bowl on top without letting it touch the water, stirring constantly until smooth. Alternatively, microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until completely melted.
  3. Spread Dark Chocolate: Pour the melted dark chocolate onto the parchment-lined pan and use a rubber spatula to spread it evenly to about ⅓-inch thickness. Refrigerate for 10 minutes to slightly harden the chocolate.
  4. Melt White Chocolate and Layer: In a clean bowl, melt the white chocolate using the same method. Pour the melted white chocolate over the dark chocolate layer and gently spread it out to cover fully.
  5. Add Toppings: While the white chocolate is still melted, sprinkle the crushed peppermint candies and Christmas M&M’s evenly on top.
  6. Chill to Set: Place the pan in the refrigerator for 2 hours or in the freezer for 45 minutes until the bark is completely hardened.
  7. Break and Serve: Remove from the fridge or freezer and break the bark into pieces. Enjoy immediately or store as desired.

Notes

  • Storage: Once fully set, store the peppermint bark in an airtight container or sealed plastic bag at room temperature for 3-4 weeks. Keep it in a cool area to avoid melting, or store in the refrigerator for longer freshness.
  • Freezing: For longer storage, freeze the bark in a freezer-safe airtight container or bag for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving.
