Description

This Bourbon Chicken recipe is an easy and delicious way to enjoy a takeout-style favorite at home. Tender chicken pieces are marinated in a flavorful bourbon-soy sauce mixture, then cooked to perfection in a skillet.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Marinade:

  • 1/2 cup bourbon
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
  • 2 tablespoons red wine
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Chicken:

  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into smaller pieces
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon chopped chives, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate Chicken: In a bowl, whisk together all marinade ingredients. Add chicken pieces, toss to coat, cover, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
  2. Cook Chicken: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add marinated chicken and cook until no longer pink. Add half of the marinade and continue cooking until the sauce thickens and chicken is fully cooked.
  3. Optional Extra Sauce: In a separate saucepan, simmer the remaining marinade over medium heat until reduced and thickened.
  4. Serve: Serve chicken over rice and garnish with chives.

Notes

  • Marinating: Marinate chicken overnight for optimal flavor.
  • Bourbon Substitute: Use apple juice or chicken broth for a non-alcoholic version.
  • Chicken: Use chicken breasts, adjusting cooking time as needed.
  • Serving: Serve over rice with your favorite sides.
  • Storage: Refrigerate leftovers for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
