Description

This Bang Bang Chicken recipe is a delicious and easy way to enjoy a flavorful, crispy chicken dish with a sweet and spicy sauce. Perfect for a quick weeknight meal or a fun appetizer for a party.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce (such as Sriracha)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Chicken:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or more, as needed)
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce (such as Sriracha)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Make Sauce: In a bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, hot sauce, and honey. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
  2. Prepare Chicken: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, pepper, hot sauce, egg, and buttermilk until smooth. Add chicken pieces and toss to coat.
  3. Bread Chicken: Place panko breadcrumbs in a separate bowl. Dredge each chicken piece in the breadcrumbs, ensuring it’s fully coated.
  4. Fry Chicken: Heat ½ inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add breaded chicken pieces in batches, avoiding overcrowding. Fry for about 3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
  5. Serve: Drizzle the fried chicken with the prepared Bang Bang sauce and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Sauce Variations: Adjust the amount of hot sauce to your preference. Add garlic powder for extra flavor.
  • Chicken: Use boneless, skinless chicken thighs for a juicier result, adjusting cooking time accordingly.
  • Breadcrumbs: Substitute panko with regular breadcrumbs or crushed cornflakes.
  • Oil Temperature: Ensure the oil is hot enough for frying to achieve crispy chicken.
  • Make Ahead: Prepare the sauce and coat the chicken up to 4 hours in advance.
