Description

These Baked Chicken Flautas are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or main course. Flour tortillas are filled with a savory mixture of shredded chicken, cheese, and spices, then baked to crispy perfection.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded
  • 2 cups Monterey Jack cheese, grated
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder or taco seasoning
  • 1/3 cup salsa of choice
  • 8 flour tortillas (soft taco size)
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Neutral cooking oil, as needed

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and brush with oil.
  2. Make Filling: In a medium bowl, combine shredded chicken, Monterey Jack cheese, softened cream cheese, chili powder (or taco seasoning), and salsa. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Fill Tortillas: Spoon the chicken filling down the center of each tortilla. Roll up tightly and place seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake: Brush the tops and sides of the flautas with oil. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Serve: Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces, such as salsa, guacamole, or sour cream.

Notes

  • Chicken: Use leftover cooked chicken or rotisserie chicken for convenience.
  • Cheese: You can substitute Monterey Jack cheese with other types of cheese, such as cheddar, mozzarella, or a Mexican blend.
  • Spice: Adjust the amount of chili powder or taco seasoning to your preferred spice level.
  • Make Ahead: Assemble the flautas ahead of time and bake later. Refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking.
  • Air Fryer: You can also cook these flautas in an air fryer. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
