Description

These crispy air fryer fried pickles are a healthier, crave-worthy snack or appetizer. Sliced pickles are coated in a flavorful seasoned flour and panko breadcrumbs, then air fried to golden perfection, delivering a satisfying crunch without deep-frying.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Pickles

  • 16 oz bread and butter pickle chips or dill slices

Breading & Coating

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp garlic salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs

Other

  • Cooking oil spray (for air fryer basket and pickles)

Instructions

  1. Dry the Pickles – Drain the pickle chips and pat them thoroughly dry using a few paper towels. Removing excess moisture helps the coating adhere and ensures crispiness.
  2. Prepare the Coating Bowls – In one bowl, combine the flour, garlic salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika, mixing well. In a second bowl, beat the egg. In a third bowl, add the panko breadcrumbs.
  3. Bread the Pickles – Working a few at a time, dredge each pickle slice in the seasoned flour mixture, then dip it into the beaten egg, and finally coat it with panko breadcrumbs, pressing lightly for the crumbs to stick.
  4. Prepare the Air Fryer – Spray the air fryer grate or basket with cooking oil spray to prevent sticking. Arrange the breaded pickle chips in a single layer, ensuring they do not overlap; cook them in batches if necessary. Lightly spray the tops of the pickles with cooking spray.
  5. Air Fry the Pickles – Set the air fryer to 385°F. Air fry the pickles for 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Be sure the pickles are as dry as possible for a crunchy coating.
  • Cook in batches so the pickles don’t overlap; overcrowding prevents crispiness.
  • Use dill or bread and butter pickles to suit your taste preference.
  • Serve with ranch, chipotle mayo, or any favorite dipping sauce.
  • For an extra kick, add a pinch of cayenne to the flour mix.
